Red Velvet are currently working on some new material for release later in the year, but in the meantime they think these times require the re-release of two of their most popular and committed songs, Stranger Welcome and After the War, as they have both never been more relevant.
After the War was released on the EP “Darkness & The Angels” in 2020. Les wrote the song in 2018, when Trump and Brexit were having their demoralising effects and he felt it might give everyone a much-needed lift. The lyrics harken back to the optimism that was felt as WWII drew to a close, bringing the Labour Party to power in 1945 and leading to the creation of the NHS in 1948. Just a few years after the EP’s release, devastating wars are being waged against the populations of Ukraine and Gaza, causing unimaginable suffering, so with this song Red Velvet are adding their voice to the call for peace.
