Stranger Welcome
04:29
|
|||
She wants to wake in a warm, soft bed
She wants to know that her kids are fed
Be sure that no one wants them dead, no stranger welcome
She wants to work and pay her bills
Somewhere to call if they fall ill
Go out and know she won't be killed, no stranger welcome
She'd like to send some money back
To find her family what they lack
Walk down the street free from attack, no stranger welcome
But something stirs in the neighboursphere
The banner says "Not wanted here.
This land is ours, so just keep clear!" No stranger welcome
On city pavement, country dirt
Dressed in hijab or miniskirt
Can she be sure she won't be hurt? No stranger welcome
Today, a hundred years ago
In Warsaw or in Walthamstow
A no one with nowhere to go, no stranger welcome
Still something stirs in the neighboursphere
The banner says "Not wanted here.
This land is ours, so just keep clear!" No stranger welcome
She wants to wake in a warm, soft bed
She wants to know that her kids are fed
Be sure that no one wants them dead, no stranger welcome

That's What Duos Do
04:28
|
|||
One of them sang like an angel, the other one wrote like a sage
They never felt anger or envy, they would always be on the same page
When you saw them singing together, their beat was a single heart
But they soon craved their space and their freedom, and I guess that’s what drove them apart
There’s something unique in two voices, but they have to stay close and be true
When each of them sings for the other, ‘cause that’s what duos do
When solo they saw that the whole was much more than the sum of the parts
What they had was so precious and holy, the joining of two lonely hearts
So they vowed they would get back together, their reunion brought them great joys
There’s nothing that’s so transcendental as two who can sing with one voice
There’s something unique in two voices, it’s the same thing about me and you
When each of them sings for the other ‘cause that’s what duos do
They knew how to tug on your heart strings, sometimes they would break them in two
There wasn’t a sad song they’d not sing, yes, a bit like GP and Emmylou
Her voice showed the pain of a life lived, he harmonised from the same breath
Now he’s still by her side when she’s singing, though it’s forty years since his death
There’s something unique in two voices that will always be faithful and true
When each of them sings for the other, ‘cause that’s what duos do
When each of them sings for the other, ‘cause that’s what duos do

Our Love Is Music
03:04
|
|||
Sing me a tune, let’s leave way behind the places we knew, go far away
Just me and you, we’ll be a symphony
Our love is music, come on, let’s play
Away with words, when all is said and done we’re seen and not heard, what do you say?
Let’s find a place where we can make it
Our love is music, come on, let’s play
Sing me a line, we’ve got this evening and some bottles of wine
Can’t think of anything so sweet and so fine, my songs are for you and yours are mine
May take all night, we’ll keep on playing till we’re sure that we’re tight
And if it takes until the morning light, well that’s all right
Give me your hand, we’ll move together and we’ll find a new band, go our own way
Be what we can ever imagine
Our love is music, come on, let’s play
Sing me a line, we’ve got this evening and some bottles of wine
Can’t think of anything so sweet and so fine, my songs are for you and yours are mine
May take all night, we’ll keep on playing till we’re sure that we’re tight
And if it takes until the morning light, well that’s all right
Sing me a tune, let’s leave way behind the places we knew, go far away
Just me and you, we’ll be a symphony,
Our love is music, come on, let’s play
Our love is music, come on, let’s play
Our love is music, come on, let’s play

Private Prisons
02:36
|
|||
I heard in that wondrous nation
America, the Land of the Free
The privatization of prisons
Is part of some new policy.
So come all you private contractors
And build up your towers so strong
You might get a grant from the government
Put your enemies where you think they belong.
They’re building their new private prisons
Free enterprise still wins the day
And if you don’t enter in competition
Oh shut up or they’ll put you away.
I met a young boy and adored him,
But maybe that wasn’t enough.
In exchange for the gifts that I brought him
He taught me some lessons in love.
But now he is off with another
I should have known right from the start
That he’d open a Box of Pandora
If I gave him the key to my heart
So I’m building my own private prison;
I’ll lock it, and throw away the key.
It’s preventive incarceration,
To keep the world safe from me.
To keep the world safe from me.

You Put a Spell on Me
03:54
|
|||
You put a spell on me
I beg of you, set me free
‘Cause I’m too tired to keep on loving you
You put a spell on me
But some things aren’t meant to be
‘Cause I’m too tired to keep on loving you
I can’t stop thinking of you
No matter what I do
I can’t find a way to keep from loving you
You put a spell on me
I beg of you, set me free
‘Cause I’m too tired to keep on loving you
Please snap your magic wand
Throw your potions in the pond
‘Cause I can’t go on - I gotta stop loving you
From two hundred miles away
You’re on my mind both night and day
I can’t find a way to stop loving you
You take my breath away
Can never find the words to say
It’s a price too high to pay to keep on loving you
So please snap your magic wand
Throw your potions in the pond
‘Cause I can’t go on - I gotta stop loving you
You put a spell on me
I beg of you, set me free
‘Cause I’m too tired to keep on loving you
I’m way too tired to keep on loving you
Oh I’m so tired, I can’t stop loving you

Boxers Always Fight Hurt
05:34
|
|||
Boxers are in all of us
As we fight our way through life
As we clench our fists in readiness
Swaying steady against the strife
Children grow up quickly
Watch them as they fly
Demons sometimes whisper
“Life is shit and then you die”
Neighbours comment “busy?”
As you potter in the dirt
Dreamers may rest easy
Boxers always fight hurt
Stinging like a butterfly
Floating like a bee
Darting like a dragonfly
Wailing like a banshee
Tailors make to measure
Mothers to make do
Sailors bury treasure
Fathers do what they’ve got to do
Neighbours comment “pity!”
As you struggle in the dirt
Boxers are in all of us
Boxers always fight hurt
Boxers are in all of us
Boxers always fight hurt

El Patron y El Diablo
05:00
|
|||
There’s a beast that haunts the cellars here,
It fills the workers’ hearts with fear
And woe betide the ones who hear
El patrón y el diablo charlando
(the boss and the devil chatting)
Two hundred miles to reach that place
Through baking heat we kept the pace
Their doctors drove our sick away
When we got there, we heard them say
There’s a beast...
Exhausting fields, we never shirked
The task, we toiled way after dark
They said we lacked the will to work
Threw dimes at us down in the dirt
There’s a beast...
At harvest time, to make things good,
Their sugar sweet, the masterhood
Of bosses signed a pact of blood
The price we barely understood
The few of us who raised a voice
For health, for rights, respect for laws
Were disappeared, to speak no more,
By demons down dark corridors
There’s a beast...
There’s a beast...

The Milky Way
04:28
|
|||
If you have nothing, then you’ll have nothing at all
If you have something, just sit there and wait for a windfall
When you have everything, the devil may pay you a call
And leave you with ... you’re better with nothing, nothing at all
He heard the old story about how it could happen to you
He thought one day surely a change was due, his dreams would come true.
The power, the glory, when Lady Luck did come through
It slowly turned gory, in his last inventory, he kept his tattoo.
If you have nothing...
As pilgrims we travel alone on this earth
What we have in our pockets is not what we’re worth
All your serious business just fills us with mirth
You know it’s a curse, and it only gets worse
She once loved a dreamer, he promised her fortune and fame,
But then he got meaner, just after he’d altered her name
All his misdemeanours would fill her with anger and shame
Took her to the cleaners, his words grew obscener, said she was to blame
If you have nothing...
If you have nothing...
