That’ll never happen in real life; that could never happen at all (x 2)
1)
There was once a simple man known as Chauncey
who spent the whole time watching TV
and tending all the flowers in the garden
of a townhouse in downtown DC
Then he was taken in by some moguls
and they were taken in by him too
His banalities were believed to be wisdom
His celebrity and power grew and grew
Chorus
2)
A handsome boy once made it his mission
to try out every vice known to man
His charm ensured that every door opened
as he went on to follow his plan
His depravity he carefully shielded
With deftness he avoided disgrace
But hidden in his loft was a portrait
With his ugly soul revealed on his face
Chorus
3)
When he hit his head, a sensitive scholar
Asserted he was Henry the 4th
To spare him harm his friends rallied round him
And maintained the farce for all they were worth.
They served him like a king in his kingdom
They curtsied and they bowed to their Lord
But little did they know he was kidding
Just playing games because her was bored
Chorus (x 2)

After the War
04:55
|
|||
Chorus
After the war, we’ll have a home, we’ll have a job, we’ll have a dream
Our nightmares won’t be half as scary as they’ve been
After the war, after the war
1)
After the war, we’ll dress our wounds, we’ll dress in style, life will resume
Call on our friends, all make amends, we’ll call the tune
2)
After the war, we’ll build our world, we’ll fill the streets, our flags unfurled
Be warm inside, regain our pride, each boy and girl
Chorus
3)
After the war, we’ll sing our songs, we’ll be in tune, we’ll all belong
We can retire, we can aspire, we can be strong
4)
After the war, I’ll take the bus, give up my seat, not me but us
I’ll care for you, you for me too ... be prosperous
Chorus
All we are saying is give peace a chance ...

Ride of Darkness
04:30
|
|||
1)
The journey we travelled together, not knowing what outcome might be
Our voyage appeared, through the fears, through the tears, to last an eternity.
2)
In the time of our long days of cancer, of treatments, of drugs and that’s life
We laughed and we cried, we stood side by side, we gave it our best to survive
Chorus
The light comes through in flashes, but the darkness is hardest to fight
As hopes and fears turn to ashes, with little but anguish in sight.
3)
And finally those days did reach us, with vengeance and cruelty
Your last days were few, as I stayed close to you
They ended so painfully/brutally
Chorus
4)
Now these years have gone by like a whirlwind
I’m missing the battle we shared
Our cards have been played, our fates have been made
I’m still here, but you’re not there
Chorus 2
But the light will shine through even stronger
And the darkness a constant fight
But hopes and dreams will burn longer
Where despairing becomes a light

Self-Storage
03:36
|
|||
We’re filling up boxes to stack upon shelves
They tell of our loved ones, our lost ones, ourselves
A roomful of memories, of keepsakes placed there
To save them from damage while they’re in our care.
Oh look, there’s that photo of Natalie’s show
Her brother’s art project from long, long ago
And wedged in between them is Dad's snooker prize
Brought home from Pontin’s, the pride of Mum's eyes.
Chorus
Here are the plays that, dear Gerard, you were in
The diaries that chart every role, every scene
The posters that show all the characters you played
With the words and directions marked down on each page
Chorus
Now all the boxes are out of the store
An abundance of history behind a new door
Though we’ve emptied our boxes, the pain is still there
But the memories and photos will be kept in our care
Chorus

The Fourth Freedom
05:06
|

The 4th Freedom
They arrived at the ferry port
Stopping off at the duty free
They selected a fine case of wine
And ambled back into their home country
Meanwhile in our beat-up van
We were waiting for the next ferry
But they told us that the gates were closed
And they wouldn’t let us cross the sea
There were containers filled with tons of coal
There were lorries stacked with plates of steel
When they find a convenient hole
They can store them for a future deal
But we had mined those bags of coal
And we had forged those plates of steel
Yet we couldn’t take the money home
To give our families a daily meal
So we bade farewell to those we love
As our ancestors had also done
And we drove till we could drive no more
And we waited for the ship to come
They arrived at the ferry port
Stopping off at the duty free
They selected a fine case of wine
And ambled back into their home country
Meanwhile in our beat-up van
We were waiting for the next ferry
But they told us that the gates were closed
And they wouldn’t let us cross the sea
There were containers filled with tons of coal
There were lorries stacked with plates of steel
When they find a convenient hole
They can store us for a future deal.
